Rush Team

It's not unusual for the Rush team to get into the spirit of community and volunteerism, but the teams that made time to volunteer at The Rescue Mission couldn't help but think it was a special experience. Three teams split between the months of November, December, and January, contributed their time to the organization, which provides food, shelter, and self-sufficiency services to homeless or marginalized people throughout the greater Tacoma area.

Volunteers participated at both the men's and women's shelters, and worked jobs ranging from food prep, cutting vegetables, serving meals, and cleaning the kitchen and dining areas.

Caleb Boston, Project Engineer for RCC, was one of the volunteers who went to the men's shelter in January. This was his second year participating in the event. "I'm amazed at the amount of people (about 1,000 every day) who rely on the mission." he said.  "I enjoy knowing we are helping some of these people, who are using the facilities and programs to get on their feet."

Several volunteers brought their families and friends with them. In November, Brenda Bacon, Accounts Payable Specialist, brought her son, her boyfriend, and his son to work at the women's shelter. "It's important, I think, to show the kids that there's more to the season than the holidays." She said. "It felt rewarding to know you're making someone's day easier."

Special thanks to all of the employee volunteers who put in time and energy at The Rescue Mission: Brenda Bacon, Ben Tweet, Tyler Sliva, Ray Wolanzyk, Denise Hux, Mike Desmarteau, Carlos Moreno, Andrew Krzyzanowski, Robert Boyer, Cory Ferencik, Caleb Boston, Barb Hewson, Barb Fearon, Tawney Calzacorta, Chris DeWald, Scott Walker, Michelle Honeycutt, Cheri Winden, Ashleigh Hardeman, Kayla Dyer, Robin Maillet, and Katie Cox.
