Rush Commercial Construction is proud to announce the official groundbreaking of Acer House, a visionary mixed-use project that’s redefining community-centered development in Seattle’s Central District.
Backed by a $12.6 million low-interest loan from Amazon’s Housing Equity Fund, Acer House will deliver 121 affordable housing units, serving residents earning between 40% and 80% of the area median income (AMI). Developers Urban Black and Great Expectations are partnering on the project. Rush Commercial Construction is the builder, and Integrated Design Engineers and TCC Associates are the engineers. Urbal Architecture, Schemata Workshop and Donald King FAIA designed the project.
Acer House is more than just housing; it’s a commitment to community empowerment. The project includes a public courtyard for gatherings, and affordable commercial spaces to foster local businesses. Importantly, existing landowners are being offered equity in the development, promoting wealth-building opportunities for those with deep roots in the neighborhood.
“This is not just about building structures; it’s about building futures,” said Kateesha Atterberry of Urban Black. “By integrating affordable housing with spaces for local entrepreneurs, we’re creating a sustainable ecosystem that reflects and supports the community’s identity.”
Rush Commercial is honored to bring this bold vision to life—one that supports economic opportunity, cultural preservation, and long-term affordability in one of Seattle’s most historic neighborhoods.
