When Alex Desseau joined Rush in 2016, he was fresh out of college with a degree in Construction Management and a clear goal in mind. He wanted to find a company where he could build a long-term career, continue learning, and grow professionally over time.

Nearly a decade later, that goal has become a reality.

Starting a Career with Long-Term Potential

Like many graduates entering the construction industry, Alex was eager to gain experience and find the right place to begin his career. He joined Rush as a Project Engineer, knowing it would provide a strong foundation for his future.

"I was looking for a company that would be a long-term fit and offer opportunities to grow throughout my career," Alex says.

What he found was a company that not only provided opportunities for advancement but also encouraged employees to discover where their strengths and interests truly lie.

Finding the Right Path

As a Project Engineer, Alex quickly learned he had a talent for the documentation and coordination side of construction projects. At the same time, he discovered that his greatest interest was not behind a desk, but out in the field.

Over the years, he gradually expanded his responsibilities, taking on a hybrid role that combined Project Engineer and Assistant Superintendent duties. That hands-on experience helped him develop new skills and gain a broader understanding of the construction process.

After seven years with Rush, Alex was officially promoted to Assistant Superintendent.

Today, he continues to build his field leadership skills while working toward his next goal: becoming a Superintendent.

A Project That Changed Everything

For Alex, one project stands out as a defining moment in his career. Pottery Creek Phase 1 gave him the opportunity to step beyond his traditional responsibilities and take a more active role in the field.

"The project was staffed lean, and for much of it, it was just the Superintendent and me on site," he explains. "That experience allowed me to take on more responsibility helping run the project and really started me on the path toward becoming an Assistant Superintendent."

The project challenged him to grow, adapt, and build confidence in a leadership role. It also helped confirm that the field was where he wanted to focus his career.

A Family-Like Culture

While career growth has been important, what surprised Alex most about Rush was the culture.

"Everyone helps each other and treats their coworkers like family," he says.

That sense of teamwork and support creates an environment where employees can ask questions, learn from one another, and take on new challenges with confidence.

For Alex, that culture has been a key reason he has continued building his career at Rush.

Why Rush

When asked why he has chosen to stay and continue growing with the company, Alex points to both the culture and the way Rush operates.

"The culture here is a big reason I've stayed," he says. "There are opportunities to grow, learn new skills, and continue progressing throughout your career."

His experience is proof that careers at Rush are not limited to a single path. Employees have the opportunity to explore new responsibilities, develop their strengths, and grow into leadership roles over time.

Advice for Future Team Members

Alex's advice for anyone considering a career at Rush is simple:

"Rush is an excellent place to work and has multiple opportunities and ways to progress your career."
